A Preview of La Nouvelle Vague

The filmmaking of La Nouvelle Vague, also known as the French New Wave, served as the key influence for the Spring ’17 collection. Our design team drew inspiration from Jean Luc Godard’s 1960 cinematic experience, Breathless; the resulting collection exudes a spirit of effortlessness and spontaneity with a touch of rebellion.

The women’s collection embodies the easy-chic vibe of the French New Wave’s iconic heroines.

Silhouettes sing of 60’s nostalgia: alluring buttondown dresses, wide-leg cropped jeans with suspenders, and little A-line miniskirts. Denim has an insouciant feel, detailed with frayed edges and jagged hems to underscore the vintage character. Stripes appear on a variety of styles – tops, shorts, and dresses alike – and in a range of fabrics, from Bretons on jerseys and cashmere blends to wide pinstripes on silks. White factors heavily in the selection, lightening and brightening alongside a palette of classic color offerings.

For men, Spring offers simple wardrobe solutions for building the modern man’s wardrobe. Styles are smart, understated, and designed to layer without second thought, all crafted from premium materials and featuring subtle details the elevate them into something special. Selvedge ticker trim accents the chest pockets of long- and short-sleeve work shirts woven in Japan. Meanwhile, a pop of lettering lends graphic appeal to cornerstone pieces like crewneck tees and cashmere-blend sweaters.
