Rethinking denim means thinking about tomorrow—considering everything from the fabric down to the intricate details like packaging. AG launches The Jean of Tomorrow in pursuit of clean, circular fashion—executed in traceable organic fabric that is sustainable, and 100% biodegradable.
The most sustainable jean ever constructed begins with organic cotton, grown without pesticides, herbicides, and synthetic fertilizers, thoughtfully blended with one of the most eco-friendly fabrics in the world, hemp—a high-yield crop that produces significantly more fiber per acre than cotton and has a lower CO2 impact. Plant-based and biodegradable elements produces a soft hand and lustrous finish to the final fabric.
Distilled Indigo reduces the consumption of water, chemicals, and energy in the dying process, while advanced laser finishing, eco-friendly wash ingredients, recycled water, and ozone technology reduce the impact during finishing. The jean is sewn together using TENCEL™ Lyocell thread, stitched rivets, and corozo buttons made from the natural mineral, corozo nut—for a button-fly closure, eliminating all metal from the jean. The expected care, content, and size labels are replaced with screen-printed solutions in a soy-based ink. Hangtags and flashers are designed in a unique seed paper that when planted will grow wildflowers. In this regard, The Jean of Tomorrow itself is a seed in the foundation of AG’s growing pursuit of sustainable denim.
