HANDCRAFTED

WORLD'S FINEST SELVAGE

Where craftsmanship and tradition meet contemporary style

WHAT IS SELVAGE?

Selvage denim is a denim fabric that is distinguished by self-finished vertical edges. The term "selvage" (also seen as “selvedge”) originates from this “self-edge” detail, which prevents fraying and creates a tidy look. Cuff up a pair of selvage jeans and you’ll see clean edges at the outseams, often framed by slender white stripes with a thin line of contrasting yarns woven in. Traditionally crafted on narrow shuttle looms in a slow, labor-intensive process, selvage is rooted in denim’s rich history and beloved by denim purists. Today, you can find rigid and stretch variations in a variety of fits, colors, and washes.

3 WAYS TO STYLE SELVAGE

Selvage jeans are a hallmark of excellent taste, and we're constantly inspired by their adaptability. AG's in-house stylist Ashley Catuzzi put together three essential looks every man should have on rotation. Each look is built around a different pair of selvage jeans, proving how effortless and adaptable this denim is.

EVERY FADE TELLS A STORY

Raw selvage jeans start as a blank canvas—dark, unwashed, and stiff (if there’s no stretch added in). They transform over time, developing their own personality as you wear them. The way you sit, carry your phone and cuff your jeans all contribute to their unique character. Natural creases form and fades appear. The denim gradually breaks in and conforms to your shape. Every wear makes them softer, more comfortable, and more distinct. No two pairs are ever the same.
