A Guide to Wine Pairings

AG Jeans Summer '26: Blending craft with Californian spirit, the AG x Stony Hill collaboration arrives with curated wine pairing insight from Carlton McCoy, master sommelier.

AG launched an exclusive collection for summer 2026 in collaboration with Stony Hill, the historic Napa Valley vineyard owned by Lawrence Wine Estates. At its core, this partnership honors craftsmanship, modern ease, and true Californian spirit.

Carlton McCoy is a distinguished master sommelier and wine executive, best known as the CEO and managing partner of Lawrence Wine Estates. In 2013, at just 28 years old, McCoy passed the court of Master Sommeliers exam, becoming one of the youngest and second African American to achieve that rank. Before taking the helm of wineries, he served as wine director at The Little Nell in Aspen, where he cultivated a reputation for sophistication, deep wine knowledge, and hospitality leadership.

Discover a selection of fine wines from Lawrence Wine Estate, with tips on how to drink them from the expert himself.

2022 Haynes Estate, Forgeron Chardonnay — Coombsville, California

"This wine is more Burgundian than most white burgundy these days—mineral driven and crisp but textured with a seemingly endless finish. I adore this wine with a roasted filet of halibut served with wild mushrooms roasted in butter, garlic, and thyme, and a rich and buttery potato purée."

2022 Ink Grade Estate, Lost Clouds Merlot — Howell Mountain, California

"This is not your grandpa's merlot. This block sits at 2,200' elevation on well-drained volcanic soils. It's cold up there, so this wine is mineral and tense but finishes lush on the palate. This wine was meant for roasted duck breast with a seasonal fruit. My favorite is cherries, which accentuate the bright vibrant fruit in the merlot."

2023 Trailside Estate Vineyard, Cabernet Sauvignon — Rutherford, California

"Trailside Estate is crafted in partnership with the great burgundy producer Domaine Dujac. This is made in a rather retro style, inspired by the age worthy and fresh wines made in the 60s in the Napa Valley. The touch of herbaceousness pairs exquisitely with a roasted rack of lamb crusted with herbs, garlic, and mustard."

"I think oftern we have the desire to learn things quickly. With wine, that's impossible—it's really a journey. Taste as often as possible, and learn what you love."

— Carlton McCoy,CEO & Master Sommelier
